Mabena clan names derive from the Zulu people of South Africa. These clan names have been in existence for centuries and help preserve Zulu culture and heritage.
Mabena clan names are not simply surnames but rather a naming system which honours the Zulu ancestors, and which runs across multiple families.

As Mabena clan I understand history we are from Nguni which is from KZN, wen Mzilikazi run away from KZN with us he left some at eastern cape, some in joburg emhlangen n some at Middleburg mpumalanga and the last group was at Zimbabwe where he died
Mabhena and Mzilikazi have nothing in common except that Mzilakazi also attacked the Ndebele when he was fleeing Kwazulu. Mzilikaze left Kwazulu very late and the Ndebele were already in the Transvaal then.
